-Andrew- Journey : Aspirations
We all have aspirations in life... short aspirations or long term futur goals
What are your aspirations ?
For the longest time my aspiration has been to get accepted in university. But more importantly to travel. My aspiration in life is to open an art gallery one day, filled with photos from travels around the world. Now the percentage of that actually happening..... not so likely due to the chances of it being a bad investment... But hey I can always start with a portfolio , for now at least: ) I would love to travel around the world, but specifically my aspiration is to visit one particular country and basically never leave it...
ITALY
[for those who read this and are against the country due to sport games or such or bad experiences yeah i mean nothing offense. ] There is so much about Italy ...it is such an interesting country. Now, you are probably wondering how I've grown an obsession with the country ? Well , it all started when I visited Paris... now that was a beautiful city . A little dangerous but great! Definitely a place to visit. Im a big fan of the cooking channel (food network) I dont know, its very interesting, they have chefs from ALL different backgrounds so you can learn such as... french cusine, Jamaicain, americain, etc... but then there was this one particular chef, David Rocco. Now this italian chef just ... was so differnt. He wasn't placed in a studio with shiny pans and pre made food ready. But instead his show was based on him in Italy. (Now this happened before all the other chef fleed to the world like Chef Abroad...etc) anyhows. David Rocco was the start to my passion and love for the country. His cooking show featured him going around Italy and he would educate people on where are good places to go, and locals to visit and markets and stuff like that... Now for his cooking, he make SUPER easy food. For exemple: cooked spaghetti and lemon juice and lemon zest THATS IT! [f'real when I watched it I was like... no way... can't be Italians can't just eat that...etc total denial ] I then thought Italians were just weird... I mean pizza that just has tomatoes, olive oil, mozerella and basil... I'm like... in comparisson to the luxury we have here to get a good 5 toppings and 2 Ibs of cheese etc... that just shocked me! This whole time I was in love with the North American version of Italian food.. This whole time I loved the complex Italian food...etc. Its just like Chinese food, the North American version of "Chicken Balls" with Sweet and Sour sauce...yeah you will NEVER find that in Asia. Sorry. Anyhows... going on. So what else did I learn from David Rocco? Well his show took place in Italy. Now at the time he stayed in Florence. And he stayed in a apartment...not all day and you didn't see just little lemon tree and herb garden, but he went out to the market, found some great bargains and make great SIMPLE dishes. As well... you saw ITALY itself. He didn't just stay in Florence but he traveld ALL different provinces of Italy and he made /showed different dishes from all different provinces, like ravioli, and seafood from the south and soups from the central...etc! It was AMAZING!!! I kid you not. the sight seeings that were shown in Italy were AMAZING! They were astounding and breath taking regardless of the province. For exemple: he would attend parties at Villa’s on the mountain and the view of the city and the ocean were just beautiful ! or in Tuscany, the view of vineyards and gold fields….. enriching.
And then, another chef, Chef Jamie Oliver from the UK, he explored Italy afterwards, he visited really small cities and it was just AMAZING to see. I mean he met locals that were friendly and it is like any other country there will be many not so friendly people but regardless, his journey was great to see. He went to one school because he wants to change the school food system in the UK which currently serves burgers, fries and stuff….so when he went to Italy he was amazed at how food is such a big part of their lives. The importance of food is preserved. Anyhows, he visited an elementary school and I kid you not. They served to the children everyday a very well nutricious food, a bowl of pasta made fresh everyday, a side of apple and carton of milk. Now you’re probably like….. so? These kids (he went to a grade 1 class) were fed whole meals every day. As well he tested if they knew their vegetables etc… it was just so different to see.
ANYWAYS! Okay so .... love for Italian food. Check.
Who else did he show. Well of course when talking to the locals he would speak Italian. And oh my goodness it is one language. As well, Italy is a great place filled with friendly people and fun stuff. Afterwards, after the whole David Rocco phase cooking show. He came out with a sound track. Hahaha of course, I scan across all malls for his CD. The musique was soooo different. I mean no offense, I love Lady Gaga musique and Jay-Z as much as the next person but this was BEAUTIFUL DIFFERENT! It was FOREIGN. That was the beauty of it. So like all food network songs, they have like techno , up beat musique. Then I search the web…well there are bound to me more Italian artists? Search the web, Youtube helped a lot. And found MANY other AMAZING artists. Oh my goodness! It was like discovering a new island! Italian musique I must say is by far my favourite! I mean ….just the PASSION they have when they sing, the LANGUAGE of it is mesmerizing and the LYRICS are sooo POETIC! [ no I didn’t not find some 60 year old musician] there are many young artists that are AMAZING. I think as well that just makes ANY foreign musique wonderful is the unknown. I mean you listen to ANY foreign musique, Japanese, germain, Italian, French….etc and you listen to it and just wonder what can they be talking about that makes them have so much passion for it. and you fall in love with the rhythm, the instruments used, and then the melody and once you have finally translated on Google those lyrics its just magnificent.
Italian musique. Check. Here are some great places to check out when going to Italy. Its DEFINITELY the place to go for photography or great food (actually great food is found everywhere! That is the beauty of food, food is just …. Amazing I mean, its so different. Everyday ingredients found anywhere and make UNLIMITED combinations) Tangeant. Sorry.
As I was saying…
- Verona -->A must! There is a movie coming out next year (2010) featured in this city. This is the city known for the romantic love story of Romeo and Juliet
- Milan-->BEAUTIFUL cathedral and lots of shopping, is like a California?
- Genoa--> surrounded by the ocean this place is SPECTACULAR for breath taking sights from mountains - Turino-->fantastic place to go Snowboarding! Or skiing, and near Swiss
- Venice-->the famous romantic gandola’s and the narrow streets/markets this place is spectacular for photography or archectures and angles
- Tuscany-->gold fields, vineyards…need I say more?
- Rome-->rich history and breath taking monuments from centuries back
- Florence-->this place is wonderful! Get your Camera
- Capri--> Two words: Almafi Coast. Stunning!!!! Over view of the ocean… Google the pictures.
- -Sicily--> Love seafood? Head to the southern! Surrounded by the ocean Im sure there are MANY loads of GREAT places to visit…Heck I’d name all the provinces… but these are just some of the places that I have heard more popular.
Anyhows…. I apologize for this unexplicable obsession, but honestly when you fall in love with a country for its culture, everything and you do research upon it…its just magnificent! I mean other great countries are France, Japan, Dubai …ETC!!!!
Again I pose, What are you aspirations?
The world is TRULY filled with AMAZING places and there is SO much to be discovered! Stay open minded and discover. It is a GREAT journey to be explored.
w/ love
